Everyone’s favorite “Robin,” Dick Grayson, might be coming back to television with his Teen Titan cohorts in a brand new television show. The Hollywood Reporter is stating that TNT is nearing a pilot-production order for “Titans,” based on the popular “Teen Titans” comic book by DC Comics.
“Titans” is being billed as a drama with Marc Haimes and Akiva Goldsman attached as writers. Goldsman will act as executive producer with Haimes as co-executive producer. The show, as you can probably already tell, will involve Grayson–who has left his “Robin” moniker for the new name “Nightwing”–and fellow superheroes Starfire, Raven, and others. I’m assuming “others” includes Aqualad, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash and Speedy. Other superheroes that could also show up, if we’re going by the animated “Teen Titans” show, include Cyborg and Beast Boy. However, it’s currently not clear as to which of these superheroes will actually show up in the final show lineup.
DC is currently trying to go into what could be called a “Phase Two” with their studio productions. Of course, we have the hooplah over “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and the Justice League movie series that’s coming down the pike, but we are also seeing the production on a new “Supergirl” show from Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti. Also, the CW has DC Comics-based shows on lock with “The Flash,” “Arrow,” and “iZombie.” Other networks with DC-based shows include Fox (“Gotham”) and NBC (“Constantine”). In short, DC has made it clear that they are going for that Marvel money. The battle for geek supremacy is officially on.
