“Divergent” may have become the latest in a string of young adult books-turned-movie juggernauts, but just because it made great bank for the movie studio doesn’t mean everything about it was sunshine and roses, at least not for one of the cast members.
Apparently, Miles Teller, who played Peter in the film, has revealed his distaste for the film. The actor, who is currently promoting his latest film “Whiplash,” told W Magazine in an an interview that he didn’t like his “Divergent” role at all. Reading the script for “Whiplash” was what pulled him out of his “Divergent” funk.
“When I first read ‘Whiplash,’ I was feeling dead inside,” he said. “I didn’t have an interesting part [in ‘Divergent’] and I’d taken the film for business reasons. It was the first movie I’d done that was going to have an international audience. I called my agent and said, ‘This sucks.’ He told me about ‘Whiplash.'”
There probably wouldn’t have been much more to the story if Teller wasn’t ever going to star in another “Divergent”-based film again. But, as it turns out, Teller is also starring in the film’s sequel, “Insurgent,” which will debut March 20, 2015.
Currently, Teller is trying to do a bit of damage control via Twitter. Through his tweets, as stated by Entertainment Weekly, he clarifies that he has never taken on a film simply for business reasons. He also said he’s “proud” to be a part of “Divergent” and spreads the love to all of “Peter’s Princesses,” the group of fans that have coalesced around his character.
