Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will take the lead in an upcoming movie reboot of the 1990’s series Baywatch, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Johnson also confirmed his casting in the remake via Instagram this past Thursday. “The rumors are true…we’re making #BAYWATCH the movie. Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach,” Johnson said.
The Fast and Furious star joins the remake that is said to have been put on the fast track by Paramount. Sean Anders and John Morris have been tapped to direct. The script will be written by Justin Melan. According to speculation, the film’s premise will revolve around a drug smuggling operation. It is thought that Johnson would play the role of Mitch Buchannon previously embodied by David Hasslehoff. Johnson is also attached to star as Black Adam in Shazam and will appear next on screen in Fast and Furious 7 in 2015.
