Single Title: Broke My Heart
Singer: Alice Sungurov
Captivatingly using personal life experiences to powerfully disclose a personal story through music, and conveying riveting emotions that listeners of all backgrounds can easily relate to and understand, can be a challenging and taunting task for many musicians. But for a young teenager to mesmerizingly reveal her own true heartbreak that dauntingly arose from a relationship that painfully ended is even more revealing and gripping. The engaging Alice Sungurov, a 16-year-old New York-based pop-rock singer-songwriter, inspiringly did just that with her new single, ‘Broke My Heart,’ which she co-penned with John Bogosta, Jr. Taking an appropriately compelling influence from such influential and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriters as Taylor Swift and Adele, Sungurov wasn’t afraid to completely divulge her agony and resentment over the boy who broke her heart.
Enticingly feeling content and complete when she fully discloses her true feelings and thoughts to the world through her music, Sungurov’s endearing ‘Broke My Heart’ instantly grabs listeners’ attention through its unique pop-rock infused drums and guitar introduction. Her alluring instrumentals easily lead into her heart-felt, relatable lyrics about how even a few unexpected words from a loved one can ruin not only her day, but also the ideas she has about where her future is headed. While she insists she doesn’t want to welcome fear and despair into her life, and proclaims she doesn’t care if the person she loves wants to take time away from their relationship, she understandably holds onto the never-ending hope that their bond will improve when he returns.
‘Broke My Heart,’ which also includes his clichéd responses that his emotional distances isn’t her fault, and that he just needs to find his own sense of identity outside of the relationship, Sungurov also fearlessly states that his words do little to comfort her. Despite his words to the contrary, the singer rightfully reveals that she knows things will never be the same since they first began drifting apart. Since she’s having trouble believing he still truly cares about her feelings, she bravely tells him to take his time coming back, so that her heart can completely heal.
As a free-spirited and experienced world traveler and engaging in an fulfilling school arts curriculum, in efforts to contend with the Auditory
Processing Disorder she was diagnosed with as a young child, the talented Sungurov is a truly fearless pioneer in using music to help contend with her feelings. As the Manhattan-based singer-songwriter has learned to value integrity, authenticity and responsibility throughout her life, she enthrallingly proved her strong virtues and talents through her new song. ‘Broke My Heart’ isn’t just a gripping anthem about realizing the pain other people bring you isn’t always your fault; it’s a powerful reminder that everyone needs to learn from their heartbreak, so they can find the strength to move on and find someone who truly values them.
