We’re finally getting more information about the Lego movie featring the film’s jerky version of Batman (voiced by Will Arnet), which is called, simply enough, “The Lego Batman Movie.” Apparently, the film will get surprisingly deep in exploring how Batman could ever find peace.
The co-writer and co-director of the movie, Phil Lord, said to MTV that even though he won’t give any spoilers, “…I will say I think the movie is really exciting because it’s about ‘Can Batman be happy?”
But Batman’s happiness won’t be the only thing explored in the film. Just like how “The Lego Movie” explored various Lego imprints and eras, “The Lego Batman Movie” will explore a lot of what makes Batman’s movie franchise legendary. Co-writer/co-director Chris Miller told Empire last year that “every era of Batman filmmaking” would be acknowledged, mentioning the various reinventions of the Batman character for the big screen. Since Miller references to the fact that “[t]here are 40 versions of his origin story alone,” hopefully this means we’ll also see some odes to one of the most hilariously tragic parts of the Batman film franchise, the Joel Schumacher era of Batman. Perhaps some nods to the ’60s television show will come through as well. Seeing how well Miller and Lord work together to create tight, exceptional and exceptionally hilarious films, I can only imagine the types of jokes that this film will have. Color me excited.
“The Lego Batman Movie” will be in theaters in 2017. What do you think about this news? Give your opinions in the comments section below.
