If you’ve seen “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” you are probably adamant about the film getting some major awards season love, with one of the main demands being that Andy Serkis finally get his Best Actor nomination. Aside from the desire to see Serkis nominated in the Best Actor category, fans want to see that the astounding special effects work in the film get recognized. Thankfully, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is at the forefront of SFX awards season.
The film featuring ultra-realistic apes in a war against humanity has garnered five nominatons from the Visual Effects Society Awards, including the nomination of Outstanding Special Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture. The other nominees for this particular category include “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” “Maleficent,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Personally, I think “Dawn” is going to sweep the awards ceremony, since the entire movie hinged on the realism and emotive qualities of the apes, which added a greater level of difficulty for the visual effects team. We’ll know for sure how well the nominated films do when the awards are presented at the Beverly Hilton Feb. 4.
