While the title cyborg assassin of the upcoming sci-fi sequel, ‘Terminator Genisys,’ is known for mercilessly killing anyone who’s an obstacle to artificial intelligence’s mission of ending mankind, John Connor, the franchise’s celebrated Resistance leader, is also now turning against civilization. In the newly released official second trailer for the anticipated fifth entry in ‘The Terminator’ series, it’s revealed mankind’s true savior has seemingly relinquished his role as humanity’s liberator.
Paramount Pictures, which will distribute ‘Terminator Genisys’ in theaters, RealD 3D and IMAX 3D, across the U.S., also distributed the film’s new trailer. The clip shows John, who’s now played by Jason Clarke, transforming into a Borg-style hybrid that’s a mix between a human and T-1000. Even though he’s one of the series’ main protagonists, John is also chronicled trying to kill his own mother, Sarah, who’s played by ‘Games of Thrones’ actress Emilia Clarke. Returning franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger is also revealed to play a reprogrammed Terminator, who’s sent as a bodyguard to protect Sarah, as well as the future of all humanity. The clip also features highly-intense action sequences between the few humans who survived the series’ notorious nuclear disaster, as well as the future machines that are intent on killing every remaining human.
‘Terminator Genisys’ follows John, the famed leader of the human resistance against the machines, as he sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), a human Resistance fighter, back in time to save his mother and protect the future. But as Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, he must unite with the title Terminator, in order to defeat their new enemies and complete their new mission: resetting the future.
Besides Schwarzenegger, Clarke and Courtney, the film also stars J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Matthew Smith, Courtney B. Vance and Byung-Hun Lee. ‘Terminator Genisys,’ which is being directed by ‘Thor: The Dark World’ helmer Alan Taylor, was written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. The upcoming fourth sequel in the hit sci-fi series is also the first entry in a planned trilogy of new ‘Terminator’ films.
