Mimi Rogers has reunited with her family, as well as several uninvited guests, after a freak accident in the upcoming first season of Starz’s horror comedy series, ‘Ash vs Evil Dead.’ The actress has been cast as Suzy Maxwell, the mother of series regular star Dana DeLorenzo’s character, Kelly, a wild child who’s trying to distance herself from her past. The recent ‘Mad Men’ and ‘NCIS’ alum is the newest addition to the cast of the premium cable network’s anticipated follow-up show of the cult ‘The Evil Dead’ film series.
Besides Rogers and DeLorenzo, ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’ will also feature Bruce Campbell, who will reprise his role of the title character from the film franchise. The 10-episode first season of the show, which is now filming in New Zealand and will premiere on Starz in Fall 2015, will also star Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago and Jill Marie Jones. Lawless stars as Ruby, a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks. Santiago portrays Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick. Jones has been cast as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper who’s determined to find Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner.
In ‘Ash vs Evil Dead,’ Campbell will show how his title character, the series’ aging chainsaw-handed hunter anti-hero, has spent the last 30 years avoiding majority and the terrors of the Evil Dead. But when a Deadite plague threatens to destroy mankind, Ash is forced to finally face his demons, both personal and literal, and accept responsibility for his past actions.
Sam Raimi, who wrote and directed the original ‘The Evil Dead’ film trilogy, is helming the first episode of ‘Ash vs Evil Dead.’ The filmmaker also penned the TV series’ pilot with his older brother, Ivan Raimi, with whom he previously wrote such films as ‘Army of Darkness,’ ‘Spider-Man 3’ and ‘Drag Me to Hell.’ The director, Rob Tapert and Campbell will serve as executive producers on the horror comedy show, alongside Craig DiGregorio, who will also serve as the series’ showrunner. Ivan Raimi will co-executive produce the franchise’s latest installment. The showrunner and Tom Spezialy also co-wrote the series’ first episode with the Raimi brothers.
