Disney seems to have gotten their animation game together, finally. Say what you will about “Frozen,” but the film has put Disney animation back on the map. The company is aiming to keep their forward trajectory going with “Zootopia,” which had been teased a little last year with the release of preliminary concept art. But now, we’ve got the teaser trailer. Prepare to be enchanted.
What’s interesting is that the enchantment viewers are in store for is actually very real-world. The film is set in modern day, for all intents and purposes, in the big city, but instead of humans calling the shots, humans don’t even exist. In our place are animals that have evolved into the city-dwellers. Still, the animals haven’t lost their inherent animalistic qualities. For instance, the lead character, a savvy fox (Jason Bateman), still has rooted bias against his natural enemy, the rabbit. However, when he crosses one rabbit, who happens to be a police officer (Ginnifer Goodwin), he gets in some trouble. The film will find Bateman’s flim-flamming character Nick Wilde and Goodwin’s character Judy Hopps–the first rabbit on the police force!–partnering together to solve a mystery that could prove Judy’s worth to her fellow police officers.
Take a look at the trailer below and see what you think. I think it’s quite charming and, interestingly enough, quite adult. It looks like a film that could easily have a PG rating. In fact, I’m quite curious to see how it’s going to stay within G territory (if it chooses to do that).
