Struggling to reunite with your family and allies, and mend the estranged relationships that have harrowingly formed between you and your relatives, is often a daunting task. But it can become even more of a tormented conflict for supernatural beings who have a centuries-long vendetta to uphold when they’re brought back to life. That emotional contemplation of how to best reconnect with your siblings, parents and loved ones is intriguingly explored throughout the second season of The CW’s hit horror fantasy series, ‘The Originals.’ The sophomore season of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ spin-off is set to be released on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD this Tuesday, September 1.

Season Two of ‘The Originals’ follows the Mikaelson family adjusting to a new status quo, with the newly empowered werewolves controlling New Orleans and countless unknown threats lurking to harm them. Though Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) have vowed to make the city a safe home for their daughter, Hope, they also have inner demons to battle. As she adjusts to life as a hybrid, Hayley experiences crippling rage and depression after saying goodbye to her daughter. Klaus, who must rely on his strength now more than ever, is continuously becoming weakened as the werewolves use the moonlight rings forged in his blood.
Elijah (Daniel Gillies), who is now isolated from his troubled family, sets out to destroy Francesca (Peta Sergeant) and her traitorous werewolves, connecting with Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and his renewed vampire community in the process. Despite the dangerous climate of the city, Cami (Leah Pipes) recommits to her studies and to pursuing the life she wanted before she met Klaus.
But the werewolves in the Quarter aren’t the only enemies preventing New Orleans from any semblance of peace. Unknown to Klaus and Elijah, their ruthlessly devious parents have returned from the dead. Though their father, Mikael (Sebastian Roché), is controlled by Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) magic, he remains ever-intent on killing Klaus, even if he has to go through Davina to do it. Elsewhere, the Mikaelson siblings’ mother, Esther (Alice Evans), who’s inhabiting the body of a teenage witch, is fueled by a consuming and twisted love for her children as she devises a disturbing plan to reunite her fractured family. But her plan involves untold torment not only for the Original siblings, but for any and all of their loved ones.
