Proving to society that their life has value and purpose can be a challenge for anyone who’s considered not to be living up to their full potential. But actor Josh Bowman’s character in the new UK thriller, ‘Level Up,’ is finally demonstrating that he can successfully complete his goals, even during the most dire situations. To celebrate the protagonist’s determination to save his girlfriend, Shockya has a first-look exclusive clip from the film.
‘Level Up’ opened in select US cinemas on August 26, and its distributor, FilmBuff, will also be releasing it on VOD today. In addition to Bowman, the movie also stars Neil Maskell and William Houston. The drama marks the feature film writing and directorial debuts of Adam Randal, who co-scribed the script with Gary Young.
Set in the back streets of London, ‘Level Up’ follows Matt (Bowman) and Anna (Leila Mimmack), a young couple who’s living in London. Anna is starting her career as a paralegal, while Matt is struggling to find direction in his life. After an unsuccessful date night, they go to bed following an argument.
The next morning, masked thugs kidnap Anna as she leaves for work, before they assault Matt and lock him into a vest-like contraption. Matt is given a mobile phone and is told the vest contains a package. If he wants to see Anna again, he must follow instructions provided by text message to deliver the package. If he fails to follow an instruction or tries to seek help, then they will kill Anna. Over the course of one day, Matt has to make his way across London, as a host of characters and situations attempt to prevent him from succeeding in his mission to save Anna
With an added live-action video game twist, the high concept action film shows a hidden, sometimes terrifying and often outright bizarre side of London. With its blend of humor, action, and terror; real, flawed human characters; and a city both familiar and unseen; ‘Level Up’ is a unique and bold piece of British cinema by.
