The most lasting legacies often times arise from the dedicated attention given by leaders who fearlessly pave the way for creativity. Filmmaker Jim Henson stunningly left his mark on Hollywood when he directed the cult classic family movie, ‘Labyrinth,’ which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. In order to honor its lasting impact on the fantasy genre, Shockya is debuting an exclusive clip from the film’s new home release.
The home distribution of the drama, which is being presented in an all-new 4K restoration, features a collectible digibook packaging. ‘Labyrith’s 30th anniversary home release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital also features a limited edition gift set.
The clip, which is titled ‘Reordering Time-Really Adored Him,’ features interviews with several key people who were connected with Henson during the 1980s when he was making the movie. Vincent Anthony, the founder of the Center Of Puppetry Arts, mentioned how proud the director was with the final version of ‘Labyrinth,’ as well as how happy he was with the actors, including Jennifer Connelly and the late David Bowie.
The filmmaker’s son, Brian, who’s the chairman of The Jim Henson Company, added that he felt the closest to his father while he was shooting the adventure film. Brian added that he thinks his late father would have been happy to see the fantasy movie’s lasting success. Connelly also added that she adored working with Henson on ‘Labyrinth,’ and enjoyed being able to watch the way he approached making the family film.
In addition to being helmed by Henson, ‘Labyrinth’ was executive produced by George Lucas and written by Terry Jones. It stars Connelly as a 16-year-old girl who wishes for her baby brother to be taken away. After she realizes that she made a mistake, she then has 13 hours to solve a complicated maze in order to rescue her younger sibling from the Goblin King, who was played by Bowie.
In addition to featuring a making-of documentary and commentary by conceptual designer Brian Froud, the new Blu-ray also features a 24-page Digibook edition. The digibook features rare behind-the-scenes photos and extras, including Connelly and Henson’s family discussing his puppetry and filmmaking; an anniversary Q&A hosted by ‘MythBusters’ Adam Savage; and a Bowie remembrance by Connelly and Henson’s children. ‘Labyrinth’s collectible limited edition gift set, which features unique mirror box packaging that’s inspired by the movie’s final scene, and the Bly-ray’s Digibook, is also being released.
