A home’s terrifying history doesn’t only torment the occupants who originally experienced its tragic effects, as the building’s past can ultimately negatively influence future visitors, as well. Horror viewers will experience how a family’s misfortune can impair them all, as the anticipated thriller, ‘Abattoir,’ is set to be released later this year. Momentum Pictures has acquired the North American rights to the film, and plans on releasing it in theaters, as well as on VOD and Digital HD, on December 9.
The horror movie was directed by ‘Saw’ alum, Darren Lynn Bousman, and written by Christopher Monfette, who has scribed several episodes of the Syfy television series, ’12 Monkeys.’ ‘Abattoir’ stars Jessica Lowndes, Joe Anderson, Lin Shaye and Dayton Callie.
Momentum Pictures’ Senior Vice President of Content, Ian Goggins, made the official announcement about the distribution company picking up the domestic rights for ‘Abattoir.’ Of the acquisition of the horror film, Goggins noted, “We’re fans of Darren Bousman‘s body of work in the horror genre, so we couldn’t be more thrilled to work with him on ‘Abattoir.’ The film has unique twists and turns that will leave audiences at the edge of their seats.”
Also speaking about the process of making the thriller, Bousman explained that “‘Abattoir’ has been a labor of love for all of us involved. It is an honor to partner with a distribution team who not only understands the genre, but are actual fans of it.”
Based on the Radical Publishing 6-issue comic book mini-series created by Bousman, ‘Abattoir’ had its world-premiere this past spring at the Los Angeles Film Festival in the Nightfall section. It has also screened in a dozen other festivals this summer, and won Best in Festival at the Hot Springs Horror Festival.
‘Abattoir’ centers on a real estate reporter, Julia (Lowndes), who unearths an urban legend about a house being built from rooms where horrific tragedies have occurred. The investigation ultimately leads her and her ex-lover, Detective Declan Grady (Anderson), to the enigmatic Jebediah Crone (Callie) and the answer to the question, How do you build a haunted house?
