Abbie Cornish, Dylan Gelula and Garrett Wareing have joined the cast of the psychological thriller, ‘Puberty,’ Brainfeeder Films has announced. Production on the drama is set to begin this winter in Los Angeles.
CAA is handling the domestic rights for the movie. The thriller serves as the second feature for the newly formed Brainfeeder Films, whose launch was announced during the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. Eddie Alcazar will direct and produce the drama, whose story he also worked on with Ted Kupper, who penned the script. Filmmaker and musician Flying Lotus is executive producing and composing the score for ‘Puberty.’
Brainfeeder Films has released the following synopsis for ‘Puberty’:
A teenage boy (Wareing) with a violent past, who is haunted by dark visions, enters a mysterious clinic where the patients wildly transform their bodies and minds using genetic engineering. There he undergoes treatment, and therapeutic implants are installed into his body. The implants heal his visions, but at a corporeal cost, and ultimately he discovers that purity of mind is not exactly what he’d imagined.
Flying Lotus and Alcazar recently partnered to form the independent film finance and production outfit Brainfeeder Films. Their goal is to focus on producing traditional and nontraditional entertainment and commercial content for global audiences. The company is also committed to fostering emerging director’s creative visions.
Flying Lotus, who is also known by his birth name Steven Ellison, made his directorial debut with his own short film, ‘Royal.’ The short debuted to critical acclaim at the Sundance Next Fest in Los Angeles in August.
