Tom Cruise has unleashed an ancient evil power in the new trailer and poster for the upcoming action film, ‘The Mummy.’ Universal Pictures, which is set to release the drama in theaters on June 9, have unveiled the project’s second official trailer and image of actress Sofia Boutella as the title character. The clip features the Oscar-nominated actor inadvertently unleashing the powers of the former queen of Egypt, who has laid dormant for the past 2,000 years.
Universal Pictures has released the following synopsis for ‘The Mummy’:
Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella), whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, ‘The Mummy’ brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
In addition to Cruise and Boutella, ‘The Mummy’ also stars Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Academy Award winner, Russell Crowe. The adventure movie was directed and produced by Alex Kurtzman, who has previously worked with Cruise on the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series. The fantasy film was written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie.
