Beloved horror icon, George A. Romero, will receive a special tribute during this year’s upcoming FEARnyc, New York City’s premier horror film festival. The acclaimed filmmaker, who’s best known for, and accredited with, launching the zombie apocalypse with his revolutionary 1968 movie, ‘Night of the Living Dead,’ will receive the festival’s annual Legacy Honor.
In addition to celebrating Romero with the Legacy Honor, FEARnyc will also host a special screening of ‘Night of the Living Dead,’ which will be introduced by historian Tyler Hixson. The recognition comes after the writer-director-producer passed away this past Sunday, July 16.
“Mr. Romero was a supporter of FEARnyc since its inception, and we are saddened to hear of his passing,” said John Capo, the founder and director of the horror festival. “We will do our best to honor a man who had a profound effect on the world of horror, and we extend our condolences to his wife, Suz, and his entire family.”
The annual FEARnyc, which was founded last year, screens dozens of horror film premieres. The horror festival also features filmmaker Q&As, special events and an award ceremony. This year’s festival will be held October 27-29 at The Sonnet Theater in Times Square.
