The long-debated topic of whether nature or nurture creates and influences people’s personalities is being brought into the spotlight again with the release of the new green band trailer for the upcoming horror film, ‘Leatherface.’ The new clip premiered exclusively on Entertainment Weekly on Monday, after the recent release of the red band trailer and teaser poster for the prequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic, ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.’ The latest trailer offers fans of the franchise a more intimate exploration into the title villain’s early life with the Sawyer family, as well as his troubled times in a psychiatric ward.
‘Leatherface’ was co-directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, who previously worked together on such horror films as 2007’s ‘Inside’ and 2011’s ‘Livid.’ The latest installment in ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ series was written by Seth M. Sherwood, and stars Stephen Dorff, Lili Taylor, Sam Strike, Sam Coleman and Vanessa Grasse. Lionsgate is set to distribute the origin story exclusively on DIRECTV on September 21, and then in theaters and On Demand on October 20.
The following synopsis for ‘Leatherface’ has been released by Lionsgate:
In Texas, years before the events of ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,’ in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriff’s daughter dead. Ten years later, the Sawyer teen kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with three other inmates. Pursued by authorities, including the deranged sheriff who’s out to avenge his daughter’s death, the Sawyers go on a violent road trip from hell, and mold their youngest child into the monster who’s now known as Leatherface.
