Further enhancing its esteemed reputation of highlighting socially and culturally relevant stories, the Boston Film Festival (BFF) has announced its official lineup for its upcoming 33rd edition. The 2017 BFF’s screening schedule is currently listed on its official website, where the public can purchase individual and VIP all access tickets. The festival is scheduled to run between this Thursday, September 21 and Sunday, September 24.
The presenting sponsor for this year’s BFF is Union Point. Other sponsors include A&E, NBC Boston, the Revere Hotel, the Hollywood Reporter and AMC Theaters. Theater locations are listed on the festival’s website, with Opening Night and most of the screenings being held at the AMC Boston Common.
BFF will begin with the Opening Night screening of ‘In the Name of Peace: John Hume in America’ on Thursday, September 21. The screening, which marks the film’s International Premiere, will begin at 7pm, and will be held at AMC Lowes Boston Common.
‘In the Name of Peace: John Hume in America’ was directed by Maurice Fitzpatrick, and is narrated by Liam Neeson. The movie follows the work of Nobel Prize winner, John Hume, who worked to to secure peace in Ireland. It shows how Hume, who was inspired by Martin Luther King and rose from the riot-torn streets of Northern Ireland, enlisted help from American Presidents from Carter to Bill Clinton. The documentary includes interviews with American Presidents Clinton and Jimmy Carter, US Senators and Congressmen, Irish leaders and British Prime Ministers Tony Blair and John Major.

Another highlight of this year’s BFF is the East Coast Premiere of director Ash Avildsen’s thriller, ‘American Satan.’ The drama is set to screen on Friday, September 22 at 9pm at AMC Lowes Boston Common. The movie stars Denise Richards, Booboo Stewart, Drake Bell, Malcolm McDowell, John Bradley, Olivia Culpo and Andy Biersack.
‘American Satan’ follows a young rock band, whose members hail from both England and the United States. They decide to drop out of college and move to the Sunset Strip to chase their dreams. Living in a van, their passion and talent exceed their means to survive. An enigmatic stranger sees their true potential and emotionally manipulates them during a time of weakness. Caught in the middle of a Faustian deal, their music and controversial altercations end up influencing society beyond anything they imagined.

BFF‘s Saturday, September 23 screening lineup begins with writer-director-producer’s Kelly Noonan Gores’ documentary, ‘Heal.’ The film, which begins at 4:30pm at Calderwood Pavilion, features Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Marianne Williamson, Dr. Michael Beckwith, Rob Wergin, Gregg Braden, Anita Moorjani and Anthony William the Medical Medium.
‘Heal’ embarks on a scientific and spiritual journey, which showcases that our thoughts, beliefs and emotions have a huge impact on our health and ability to heal. The latest science reveals that we are not victims of unchangeable genes, nor should we buy into a scary prognosis. The fact is we have more control over our health and life than we have been taught to believe.

Also screening at AMC Lowes Boston Common on Saturday is writer-director Daniel Berk’s ‘Damascus Cover,’ which begins at 7pm. Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Olivia Thirlby, Navid Negahban and the John Hurt (in his final performance) star in the thriller, which is having its World Premiere at BFF.
‘Damascus Cover’ is set after the fall of the Berlin Wall. A veteran spy is sent undercover in Syria to smuggle a chemical weapons scientist and his family out of Damascus. Within days of his arrival, he realizes he’s being followed, his partner doesn’t show up, his local contact disappears and a group of men try to kill him. He finds himself caught in a maddening puzzle he must race to understand.

BFF will end its 33rd edition on the night of Sunday, September 24 with the screening of ‘Crash Pad.’ The comedy will also screen at AMC Lowes Boston Common, and will begin at 7:15pm. The movie was directed by Kevin Tent, written by Jeremy Catalino and stars Christina Applegate, Domhnall Gleeson, Nina Dobrev and Thomas Hayden Church.
‘Crash Pad’ follows sentimental slacker and misfit, Stensland (Gleeson), who becomes caught in a love triangle between Morgan (Applegate) and her alpha male husband, Grady (Thomas Haden Church). What starts out as a one night stand leads to broken hearts, blackmail, revenge and drunken debauchery as Grady moves into Stensland’s apartment and takes over his life. In order to survive, Stensland must get this married couple back together again.

BFF will feature the free Special Presentation of ‘Live-Casey Sherman’s Tales of Suspense One-Man Show,’ which will start at 3pm on Sunday at the Boston Center for the Arts – Plaza Theatre. Reservations for the free tickets are now available on the festival’s website.
A Q&A with Sherman, who’s an international bestselling author, award-winning journalist and master storyteller, will be held as part of the presentation. The ‘Tales of Suspense’ show will kick off BFF’s highly anticipated new program series, Conversations Spotlight.
Sherman will provide an afternoon of thrilling and inspirational true Boston and New England tales, which have been included in a series of his bestselling books, including the block-buster, ‘The Finest Hours.’ The story, which follows the dramatic 1952 Coast Guard rescue off Chatham, was adapted for the big screen by which Walt Disney Pictures. The 2016 action drama stars Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Eric Bana and Ben Foster.
