Possessing important secrets that would stop leaders who maintain control over their subjects is a powerful asset for anyone. It’s even more beneficial for a young teen boy and his mother, who are determined to overcome their recent status change to dangerous outcasts, in the new film, ‘The White King.’ In honor of the sci-fi movie being released on DVD and Digital this Tuesday, December 5, by Omnibus Entertainment (Film Movement’s genre label), Shockya is premiering an exclusive clip.
The dystopian drama marks the feature film directorial debuts of Alex Helfrecht and Jörg Tittel, who also co-wrote the script. ‘The White King’ stars Jonathan Pryce, Fiona Shaw, Agyness Deyn, Greta Scacchi, Ross Partridge and newcomer Lorenzo Allchurch.
‘The White King,’ which is based on the internationally acclaimed, award winning novel of the same name by György Dragomán, also features elements from George Orwell’s ‘1984’ and J. G. Ballard’s ‘Empire of the Sun.’ The movie also includes themes that are similarly explored in the current hit series ‘A Handmaid’s Tale’ and ‘The Man in the High Castle.’
The bonus features that are included on ‘The White King’s DVD are a behind the scenes featurette, and cast and directors interviews. The DVD will be sold for an SRP of $24.95.
Omnibus Entertainment has released the following synopsis for ‘The White King’:
Djata (Allchurch) is a care-free twelve-year-old growing up in The Homeland, which is a totalitarian state that’s shut off from the outside world. Filled with Big Brother-like surveillance cameras and propaganda posters, the agrarian community at first seems peaceful and orderly, kept safe by an enormous statue dominating the landscape.
But when Djata’s father, Peter (Partridge), is whisked away to a deadly work camp, the young boy and his mother, Hannah (Deyn), are labeled traitors. They’re also forced to navigate a world of propaganda, abuse and secret police. Before his father was taken away, however, Peter passed a secret to Djata that could change everything.
