Creative people often bask in not only their successes, but also the resulting recognition they receive for their completed work. But the late Chris Sievey, who was a genius songwriter, artist and comedian from the 1970s to his passing in 2010, decided to instead turn his life into a fantastic, subversive piece of anonymous performance art. His imaginative work and life are therefore being celebrated in the upcoming documentary, ‘Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story.’ In honor of the film’s World Premiere at this month’s SXSW, Shockya is exclusively premiering the movie’s poster.
Piece of Cardboard Productions, in association with Ffilm Cymru Wales, 104 Films and Fat Controller Management, presents ‘Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story.’ The documentary was helmed by filmmaker Steve Sullivan, who made his feature documentary directorial debut on the movie.
‘Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story’ tells a twisted tale of split personalities. Sievey’s greatest creation was his alter ego, the mysterious Frank Sidebottom, who became a manic, insane, mercurial star who obscured his own creator. As Sidebottom, Sievey played at Wembley Stadium, and also received his own television show, which helped him build an army of fans, especially in his native England. But Sievey, whose life inspired the 2014 narrative feature film, ‘Frank,’ grew to resent his creation, and descended into alcoholism and bankruptcy.
‘Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story’ will premiere on Tuesday, March 13 at 9:00pm CT at Austin’s Alamo Ritz 1. The movie will also screen on the following dates at SXSW: Wednesday, March 14 at 4:15pm CT at the Stateside Theatre, and Saturday, March 17 at 11:30am CT at the Alamo Ritz 2.
