Sci-fi fans are now able to fight the creatures that are intent on ending human society. With this spring’s ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ set to be released on Digital June 5, and then on Blu-ray and DVD on June 19, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has partnered with the online art community DeviantArt to host a “Create Your Jaeger to Battle Kaiju in Your HomeTown” global art contest.
Artists around the world are encouraged to create their own Jaeger, which is the most effective line of defense against the Kaiju creatures during the Kaiju War. Participants must then place their Jaeger where they live, anyplace in the world, such as at a key landmark, in the back of a house or near a famous statue. Jaegers can be inserted into a photo or can be artistically recreated.
The first place winner will receive $6,000 USD, a six-month DeviantArt Core membership, a film poster signed by select cast members and a ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Blu-ray and DVD combo pack. The second place winner will receive $3,000 USD, a DeviantArt six-month Core membership, a film poster signed by select cast members and a ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Blu-ray and DVD combo pack. The third place winner will receive $1,000 USD, a DeviantArt three-month Core membership, a film poster signed by select cast members and a ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Blu-ray and DVD combo pack. Twenty-two semi-finalists will receive 2,000 DeviantArt points, a DeviantArt three-month Core membership, a film poster signed by select cast members and a ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Blu-ray and DVD combo pack.
Fans of the movie franchise and contest hopefuls can see some initial pieces on ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’s page on DeviantArt’s website. The contest, which is now open, ends at 11:59:59 pm PT on June 12, and entrants must be at least 13 years old, as of May 21. Entries may include licensed brushes and textures, original imagery and text created by the entrant, and visual elements from ‘Pacific Rim Uprising,’ but the entrant may not directly copy and paste images from the drama as part of an entry. More details on the contest can also be found on its page on the art community’s website.
