Brown Kid's Rusty Strings EP Review
Singer-songwriter Brown Kid has released his first EP, ‘Rusty Strings.’

Artist: Brown Kid

EP: ‘Rusty Strings’

Infusing a carefree attitude into music that also thrives on powerful messages that engage listeners to ponder what’s going on in the world around them isn’t always an easy feat. But Peruvian-born singer-songwriter, Brown Kid, has stunningly done just that on his recently distributed new release, ‘Rusty Strings.’ His first EP, which consists of six new tracks, is rooted in the artist’s signature lighthearted and acoustic nature. The EP features an intriguing mix of folk, rock and reggae vocals and instrumentation that inspire people to embrace who they are, while also contemplating their place in the world around them, and what kind of impact they’ve truly left on society.

‘Rusty Strings’ begins with one of its most noteworthy and memorable entries, ‘Welcome to My Funeral.’ The song compellingly tells the story of a funeral that’s taking place, and is told from the perspective of the person who is recently deceased. Even with its solemn nature, the song still alluringly and comically ponders what kind of lasting memory the person has left on his community. The narrative grippingly and relatably states that people who had no interest in him while he was alive shouldn’t pretend to care about his death. Driven by a stunning acoustic guitar and authentic reggae vibe, the track truly contemplates the last effects people have on each other, and how their perspectives of each other are always changing.

The EP’s initial emotionally reflective tune is followed by its more festive sophomore entry, ‘La Farra.’ The reggae and hip-hop-infused song encourages people to fully embrace the positive aspects in life, and not always be stressed about what’s going on in the world. Like many of the other tracks on Brown Kid’s new EP, the acoustic guitar on ‘La Farra’ gives off a enthralling blend of mellowness and liveliness that encourages people to enjoy the carefree moments in life.

The next tune on ‘Rusty Strings’ is the equally simple and buoyant ‘Hole In the Wall.’ Backed by rock-inspired guitar strumming, Brown Kid passionately croons about how he has found himself a lovely little home, in which he can find comfort in. He continues his signature mellow nature by emphasizing that he doesn’t mind how other people view the house, as it just has to suit the life he wants to lead.

‘Hole In the Wall’ is followed by the energetic entry, ‘Jamaicamecrazy.’ The unique blend of tropical, reggae and hip-hop-infused rhythms stems from the title country’s culture and the optimistic attitude displayed by its citizens. The motivating anthem encourages its listeners to not only learn from their trouble, but also appreciate all of their surroundings, and see value in all of their life circumstances.

The penultimate song on ‘Rusty Strings’ is its powerful title track, which is told from an immigrant’s point of view. Brown Kid, who now lives in Alabama, chronicles his journey to America on the tune, which is dedicated to his father and the struggles that he faced. The lyrics allow listeners to empathize with his struggles and the lonely times he faced. Brown Kid explains that no matter how lost he may have felt along the way, his guitar always made him feel at home again. The singer emotionally adds that he hopes his journey ends on a better note than how it began, as he’s determined to make his new life work.

‘Rusty Strings’ ends with one of its most noteworthy entries, ‘Complacency.’ The song reminds listeners to appreciate everything that they have, instead of remaining caught up in wishing for everything else that they don’t have, and might not ever get. Driven by a noteworthy rock guitar, Brown Kid contemplates his overall life, and expresses his contentment with what he has, as well as his relationships.

Incorporating a jovial attitude into music that also thrives on compelling messages that engage listeners to ponder what’s going on in the world around them isn’t always an easy feat. But Brown Kid has remarkably done just that on his new EP, ‘Rusty Strings.’ His latest release is rooted in the singer-songwriter’s signature lighthearted and acoustic nature. The EP features an intriguing mix of folk, rock and reggae vocals and instrumentation that inspire people to embrace who they are, while also contemplating their place in the world around them, and what kind of impact they’ve truly left on society.
